Do you have any idea how much it costs to be a trainer, especially a trainer that works for a public institution like a state agency. If I have learned anything through my 30+ years of training it is this: If you want a high quality training, someone has to pay for it. If you work for a non-profit or a government agency, it will most likely be you.
A few weeks ago I woke up early one morning as I am apt to do when on the road. I started trying to calculate how much I have spent out-of-pocket on my trainings. Bag of candy…$9.79, table settings… $30 per table, books with training activities… don’t even get me started. Add in speakers, computers, posters, stickers, bells and whistles and I realized that over the years if I had simply pocketed the cash I could afford the Mustang that my mid-life crisis is now demanding.
Over the years I have been putting aside activities, puzzles, pictures, power point timers, and ideas useful for training. I look through them periodically to add activities and pizzaz to my training. The idea was that one day I would write a book. Guess what, it ain’t today. But I did think that maybe I could facilitate a place on the internet where trainers like us, who have no money but high ideals, could share ideas and resources. The Poor Trainer’s Resource was born, welcome to the site.
No rules but a couple of thoughts…
1. I warranty nothing. I will upload content periodically but please make sure you have a good defense against viruses, bugs and trojans. Other than a roman warrior, I am unsure what a trojan is so don’t expect me to defend your computer against one.
2. Use whatever you want from this site without reservation. If you need it, use it. Give credit where it is due and be professional.
3. Don’t just sit and soak; share some of your thoughts, experiences and resources. Send them to me at poortrainer@gmail.com and I will see about getting them posted…giving credit where credit is due.
Again, welcome to the site. Each blog (see the menu at the top of the page) has a free activity, article, or a link to one somewhere on the web. Feel free to send in a post or resource to poortrainer@gmail.com. Additionally, you can comment on a post or just look around.
